A masterful balance of lavish with a beautiful touch of bright, bold and Carnival flavor, the “Dhanraj Season: A Love Affair” fashion collection stunned us all. From billowing chiffons and ornate applique’ to timeless pearls and seamless beadwork, this unique collection made its way down the runway and had all eyes glued to the stage.
According to Dhanraj, “Dhanraj Season represents those stages of love for the long, winding process that designers go through, and “A Love Affair” is me artistically expressing those experiences through my passion for fashion design”. He wanted the collection to scream opulence, and we believe that he certainly achieved that, as we couldn’t help but imagine these gowns in a Gala setting or even luxe themed Engagement party.
Each dress brought its own bit of drama with colourful tones and vibrant fabrics all throughout the collection, very indicative of Dhanraj’s style and love for glamorous fashion design. But what truly stood out to us, believe it or not, was his vision behind the collection, and his reasoning for venturing into mainstream fashion design in the first place. Dhanraj explains, “My grandmother was one of my biggest supporters, and as I made the decision to venture into mainstream fashion design, I wanted my first collection to be a representation of who she stood for as a powerful female figure. Her spirit of determination as she played the role of the matriarch in our family, helped me to truly understand the beauty of the modern woman, which I will continue to celebrate in my designs.”
Specially-invited guests also received quite a treat when they got an opportunity to see several beauty queen representatives from Trinidad & Tobago, such as Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago 2014 Jevon King, Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago 2011 and Miss World Trinidad and Tobago 2008 Gabrielle Pollonais (née Walcott); Miss World Trinidad and Tobago 2014 Sarah Jane Waddell; Miss Earth Trinidad and Tobago 2004 Leah-Mari Guevara, Best Model Of The Universe 2013 Soowan Bramble and the beloved Miss Universe 1998, philanthropist and author, Wendy Fitzwilliam walk the runway as feature models for the show. They all looked absolutely stunning (as can be seen in the photographs below), and gave us a sense of pride in showcasing that our people are not only gorgeous, but are truly making a mark on this world.
Now although this collection may not appeal to all, anyone can certainly recognize beauty when they see it, and acknowledge and support the exceptional talent that continues to come from the Caribbean fashion space. No matter your style, talented fashion designers like Mr. Shawn Dhanraj, continue to surprise and demonstrate that anyone can find the perfect piece for their next event or even special day right here in the Caribbean, and we couldn’t possibly be prouder and honoured to be able to share it with the world.
We look forward to seeing much more from this lovely fashion designer, and will keep you posted on more bridal fashion and eveningwear inspiration!
