Darlings, we’re BACK…and after a full week of Royal Wedding elegance, and an extremely exciting trip that we will be sharing very soon with all of you, it feels SO GOOD to be here!
As is customary, today is Wedding Wednesdays ya’ll and you know what that means…we have another amazing feature coming at you from Trinidad & Tobago. This lovely bride reached out to us a couple months ago, and simply blew us away with her excitement and love for our brand over the past few years. She has followed along, shared in our love and has been inspired which is our every wish for our brides to be.
Her wedding was just the sweetest thing, and also featured a special dress which you MUST see below! We know you guys are going to adore today’s sentimental garden wedding feature…so scroll below for some major wed inspiration and a bit of love from our home country. 🙂
“September 2008 was when Nicholas and I first met at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and became friends. We’ve always been just acquaintances, occasionally talking along the hallways and over BBM (Thanks, BBM!). Little did we know that God hand picked each of us for each other because we always remained in touch.
It wasn’t until June 19th 2013 that Nicholas asked me to be his girlfriend! It was at this Sports Day event that his church was having at Skinner Park and it happened unexpectedly because his mom was introducing me to everyone as his girlfriend. From then it was history. We used to write snail mail letters to each other for fun because we don’t live very close to each other.
On June 18th 2016, Nicholas asked me to marry him, and I said yes!”
“Nicholas took me to a restaurant called Prime in Port-Of-Spain where we had dinner to celebrate our three-year anniversary of being boyfriend and girlfriend. It was time for dessert, which i didn’t even want…Nicholas had to coerce me into choosing something for dessert!
After much sweat and persuasion on Nicholas’ part, I finally gave in and decided that I’d have the sorbet. To my surprise, the sorbet came with a glass on a white plate and written on the plate with chocolate were the words, “Will you marry me?””
“We chose travel and letters for our wedding theme, because we used to write letters to each other when we were close friends. Since Nicholas used to live in San Fernando and I lived in Trincity, it was exciting to send letters to each other since we didn’t get an opportunity to see each other very often, as opposed to emailing or sending messages via Whatsapp.”
What is the fondest memory from your wedding?
Wife: “Since my mother’s death, my dad has been a single parent and raised my sister and I from the time we were little children. My dad is not usually very expressive but gave the most touching speech that remains in our hearts and brought tears to everyone’s eyes! It was so impromptu, because initially he wasn’t going to give a speech, and because of that, his speech is my fondest memory.”
Husband: “It was the beginning of the rainy season, and quite a stormy day on the morning of our wedding and I was worried that the wedding would be washed out, given that it was an outdoor ceremony. I was dressing with my groomsmen at San Salvador Estate when Danielle, one of the assistants on the wedding day, walked over to the changing room to ask me to make an “executive” decision about moving the ceremony inside. It was at that moment that I looked up to the sky, and saw that the rain had suddenly stopped and the sun popped out. It was like God smiled, and the outdoor wedding that we dreamed about came true!”
“Darcel from Van der Vlugt advised, helped envision, and created my dream dress! I actually also got inspiration from Pinterest in the initial stages but Darcel really knows her stuff.”
“We have an amazing friend and cake designer named Annestine Bain. She was able to capture our vision of the most lovely cake that complemented our decor. For the venue, we chose the San Salvador Conference and Entertainment Centre in Gran Couva Trinidad. We originally wanted a destination wedding but because of logistical concerns, we ended up finding this gem that fulfilled our travel theme.”
“I planned the majority of the wedding from inspiration on Pinterest and through reading articles on the Knot, Adriana Weddings, and Caribbean Belle Weddings. I mustered the help of my friends Danielle and Khadija, and leaned on them for advice on wedding planning since they too had planned their wedding in the past, and they both were very hands-on and resourceful for the wedding day and coordinated the day’s activities.”
“We won our honeymoon from a competition advertised by Marigot Bay Beach Resort and Spa in St. Lucia on Facebook! Months before, we bought our plane tickets to St. Lucia without even knowing where we were going to stay! It was amazing! What a GODSEND!
We sailed down the coast of the island, saw the Pitons, scuba dived with the fishes, took a bath in the sulphur springs, ate at a cocoa plantation, visited various beaches, shopped, AND explored the country and its foods like locals. St. Lucia is truly a romantic destination!”
Any advice for brides to be/ newly engaged couples?
“Planning a wedding could be hectic so make sure that you plan early, keep records of all documents (google drive, folders in your email) and make sure you “shop around” before deciding on vendors. Know how much you want to spend beforehand so that you don’t go over budget. Remember that the most important thing is that you’re marrying the love of your life so don’t get too caught up in the wedding planning activities that you slow down the development of the relationship. Continue courting while you plan the wedding.”
