Happy Carnival week friends! Now for those of you who live in Trinidad & Tobago, you guys know how crazy and exciting this week is for us here, but for all of our friends from around the Caribbean, the United States, Europe and around the world, you are in for a sweet treat once you search for Carnival Celebrations in Trinidad & Tobago this week and next week Monday & Tuesday!
To be honest, the fun started since January 1st, and has not stopped. Every corner that you turn, you can hear the sweet sound of soca music, people hanging out in the streets and concerts every single night this week leading up to next week. So yep…you’re not going to want to miss it.
But, in the midst of all of that excitement, you guys know how precious our brides and couples are to us, and as such we cannot miss a week of Destination Wedding inspiration!
So for today’s feature, we decided to post our very first Real Wedding from our Destination Wedding Magazine ADRIANA, and oh wow is it one that you aren’t going to be able to keep your eyes off.
The moment that we found out this darling woman was getting married, we knew we wanted to feature her on Adriana Weddings. Not only is she one of the best photographers in Trinidad & Tobago, but she is also so kind, artistic and insanely creative. From the very first image that we saw captured by Julie Charlett Photography (our Cover photographer also…btw!) on social media, we were sold, and couldn’t wait to share the beauty with you all. So without further ado, keep scrolling for some lovely inspiration – it doesn’t get much more beautiful than this friends.
FROM THE BRIDE:
HOW THEY MET
“We met by our friend’s home. Mark moved in next door and my friends and I went over to introduce ourselves. It was fireworks from the beginning” says Lori.
“We love to hike especially with our dog, Bailey. We went up tracking station in Chaguaramas, which is where we first started hiking. We finally made it to the top and wanted to get a photo so I set up my phone to record a video (that way we can pose and then when we stop recording, we can screenshot the frame that we liked the most and we wouldn’t have had to wait for the camera timer). We both knelt down to be close to Bailey, I stood up, Mark didn’t and then he popped the question. It was perfect- a place that we both love, just us three.”
“Our decor was really simple. We worked a lot with pretty lighting from Rent-A-Fantasy and Bouge Events, used bloom boxes from True Events Ltd. as centerpieces, and hand painted acrylic signs that I made” says Lori.
Bride: “My favourite memory was the first dance. My brother and his band sang Ed Sheeran’s ‘Kiss Me’, our guests had sparklers lit all around us and it was like we were in our own little world for a romantic moment.”
Groom: “When I was finally able to give my speech. I’m a very shy person, and was very nervous leading up to that moment. I was finally able to thank everyone involved in the wedding, say lovely things about how much I love Lori and get the party started.”
THE WEDDING DRESS
“I had known long before getting engaged that I had never wanted to blow a huge part of our budget on a dress I’d never use again. Of course, I had many ideas on Pinterest but it came down to what I could find on a small budget and what I loved. A client of mine recommended I look on DHgate.com for a dress. I had my reservations but I fell in love with the dresses I chose. We had a small, intimate church ceremony during the week for which I got a simple dress, that was only US $120 and for the reception, a much more sparkly number within the same price range” mentions Lori.
“Our favourite shot from the wedding, is a gorgeous image that Julie captured of us. By this point, my feet were killing me and so I kicked off my shoes. Mark was focused on giving his speech, and totally over taking pictures. Luckily, Julie is incredibly patient and sweet and ensured us this was the last shot of the portrait session. She had us hug and look at each other lovingly (which to be honest, isn’t difficult to do) and she had her second shooter, Rhema Baksh (who was also so great that night) drop leaves in front of the camera to create a magical look. She nailed it. She captured what we really feel for each, which is unconditional love, despite feeling very stressed in the moment.”
“My brother, Anthony Borde performed at the reception. It was absolutely wonderful and added a personal, intimate touch. He and his band, including Marie Carter (which was a surprise even to me) sang for the first dance, for the father/daughter and mother/son dance (Hotel California) and then continued to sing some songs that both Mark and I love like “One Day” by Matisyahu and “tear in my Heart” by 21 Pilots, and some crowd favourites like “Africa” by Toto and “Late December back in 63”, which was a lovely surprise to my mom as it is one her favourite songs. From the feedback from the guests of all ages, they loved that the songs weren’t just specific to one age group, but for everyone to enjoy” says the lovely bride.
“I got a beautiful bracelet handmade by the same friend that lived next to Mark all those years ago, that had something borrowed, something blue, something old and something new on it. Some friends and family members also pitched in. My veil was ‘something borrowed’ from my Matron of Honour, and my ‘something blue’ was a blue hand kerchief from my deceased grandfather.”
THE WEDDING CAKE
“Dulce Maria Cabrera Laurayne, my cousin designed and decorated our cake for us. We gave her a couple inspiration photos and she made the most beautiful cake” says Lori.
“Our venue was my grandparent’s house, where my parents had got married 33 years prior. There have also been 6 other weddings there (all family members). My grandfather boasts that no one who ever got married there ever divorced, so it must be lucky.”
“Nicha Cockburn offered her services as soon as we got engaged. She is a very good friend of mine, and we were so happy to have her plan it. She gave amazing advice along the way, kept her cool when I needed it most and, on the day, she handled everything perfectly. To this day, there are hiccups that I am only now hearing about that she took care of without consulting me and it was such a blessing. We trusted her completely because she is super organised, can handle the pressure that comes with planning a wedding, keeps her cool but also isn’t afraid to buff someone when they need it” mentions Lori.
ANY ADVICE FOR NEWLY-ENGAGED COUPLES?
“Don’t take it too seriously. The wedding is one day, the marriage is a lifetime.”
The Ceremony (Day 1)...
The Reception (Day 2)...
Thank you so much to Lori, Mark and Julie Charlett for sharing this amazing wedding with us! We wish you all the best lovebirds!
