Ready for a bit of romance on this beautiful Thursday afternoon? We’re taking you lovebirds to Trinidad & Tobago today, and it is especially meaningful to us, because its home sweet home. 🙂
Mary and Kofi knew that they wanted a chic nautical vibe for their destination wedding since they both love the beach so much, and thus decided to choose a blue and gold colour scheme for their reception decor and named their tables after some of their favourite beaches that they have visited in Jamaica, Trinidad, Bermuda, and Turks & Caicos. Cute much?
Scroll down for some sweet advice from the bride, gorgeous images from Kirth Bobb Photography and so much love from sweet T&T.
FROM THE BRIDE:
THE MEETING
We met at a day party in Bethesda that our mutual friends used to throw called Mojito Sundays.
THE PROPOSAL
Kofi proposed after a perfect day spent on the water on the south coast of Jamaica. We started the day off at Black River in St. Elizabeth doing a river safari followed by drinks at Floyd’s Pelican Bar. After a few hours, Kofi popped the question and had our names engraved in the bench as a permanent reminder of the moment.
THE DECOR
We both have a deep love of the beach so naturally we wanted to have that shape the design. We went for a beach chic theme and named our tables after some of the favourite beaches we’ve visited in Jamaica, Trinidad, Bermuda, and Turks & Caicos.
FONDEST MEMORIES FROM THE SPECIAL DAY
The party! Seeing all of our friends and family come together as one and have a great time was the best experience.
THE WEDDING DRESS
I said yes to the dress that made me cry. Once I put it on and saw how it looked in the mirror, I got overwhelmed with emotion and knew it was the one.
SPECIAL SURPRISES
Kofi surprised me during the wedding ceremony with an original song that he wrote for me. He sang and was accompanied by his brother-in-law Bevin on the guitar.
THE WEDDING CAKE
Rebecca Jardine (Baked by Becky J) baked and designed our beautiful cake. Fun fact, Becky is based in Jamaica so she baked the cake and flew with it to Trinidad where she put the finishing touches on for our wedding day!
THE VENUE
We chose The Anchorage in Chaguaramas because of the amazing view. We wanted to be near the water and have that outdoor feel while enjoying the comfort of AC.
THE WEDDING PLANNING
We hired a wedding planner right away. She was instrumental to coordinating our big day, especially because we had a “destination wedding”. We began planning in December 2017 and didn’t get on the ground in Trinidad until 2 weeks before our wedding in December 2018. Wendy Maynard (Maylis Designs) was a total gem!
THE HONEYMOON
We chose Riviera Maya in Mexico for our honeymoon because it was a budget friendly yet beautiful destination. We wanted to go to a new city with great beaches that would give us a balance of relaxation and fun.
ANY ADVICE FOR NEWLY-ENGAGED COUPLES?
Get a wedding planner! Try to enjoy every moment of the day because it goes so quickly. Hold hands as much as you can on your wedding day.
Thank you to Kofi, Mary and Kirth Bobb Photography for sharing this fun destination wedding with us!
