FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHER & CAKE ARTIST:
WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE SHOOT?
We were inspired by something unique and out of the ordinary for the Caribbean. The Pines is so earthy and woodsy so we based our shoot on the vibe and moodiness of this beautifully wooded location.
WHAT WAS THE COLOUR PALETTE FOR THIS SHOOT, AND WHY WAS THIS CHOSEN?
The color palette was inspired by the deep tones of our natural environment and the theme of the shoot itself. Deep jewel tones and earthy colors brought this shoot to life.
HOW & WHY DID YOU DECIDE ON THE VENUE? WHY WAS IT PERFECT FOR YOUR VISION?
The Pines is one of the only non tropical locations on our little island and since we didn’t want something too common, it was perfect. It fit our vision without a doubt – moody, woodsy, unique and earthy.
THE DECOR IS LOVELY! HOW DID YOU DESIGN AND CREATE THIS BEAUTY?
From Love and Nature Decor: It was truly a collaborative effort. We wanted to dabble with the colour palette that we all find intriguing but which we don’t usually get the opportunity to use as vendors. The Pines, with its deep and varied earthy tones, was to us the perfect foil for that adventurous, jewel tones colour palette. Being nature lovers, we set about to design decor pieces aimed at celebrating the gorgeous natural landscape. Playing with different heights, textures and tones helped us to achieve this.
Some props, such as the table runner, candles were hand made by us to stay true to the dark teal that was the building block of the colour palette. the candelabra at the elopement spot was also a customized piece. As always, we tried to execute the design in the most environmentally friendly was and so for the installation at the elopement spot we went foam free and we used some potted pieces.
THE FLORAL WORK IS DIVINE. WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THESE DESIGNS?
To achieve the untamed natural theme of the shoot, we wanted a bouquet that displayed the same style and was cohesive with everything else. An organic bouquet with lots of greenery and jewel toned florals was the perfect match to our bohemian bride.
PLEASE GIVE US SOME INSIGHT INTO THE MAKEUP & HAIR STYLING
Hair: The inspiration behind the look for this shoot was a desire to capture a natural and bohemian look that embodied the surroundings. We wanted an effortless feeling that almost seemed undone. It worked perfectly with the setting as the humidity and lack of electricity added a challenge.
Makeup: The makeup was inspired by the rustic ‘woodsy’ feel of the shoot. The focus was on the lip with a soft complimentary eye makeup.
TELL US ALL ABOUT THAT GORGEOUS CAKE!
I really, really wanted to do a cake inspired by Jasmine Rae’s stone technique which was something we haven’t seen before in Trinidad, it’s a technique and finish for the more adventurous/bold brides who’s looking for something different on their wedding day. And I wanted to show that these techniques can be done in our little corner of the world too!
This particular cake worked for the shoot because of the textured moody elements that tied into the look and feel of the location and styling. Texture is great for a more rustic feel, and the warm taupe and jewel tones helps give the cake a more moody yet at the same time bold look. I love colour and I often gravitate towards a more moody esthetic overall, so I chose to add those elements into the design to make it more ME. And I know there are moody brides out there! So this one’s for them! 🙂
Thank you to Amber Dawn Photography and the entire team for sharing this lovely Styled Shoot with us!
