“Livingston was actually my partner in our mutual friends’ wedding. The first day we saw each other we both unknowingly made an inquiry to our friends. His vibrant personality in our wedding group chat peeked my interest. He would always get the party started and ensured everyone had a great time. But even though I found him attractive, I promised myself that I would not be the first to approach him as I had three months prior the wedding made a commitment to God that I would allow Him to do the choosing and allow Him to direct my path.
On December 5th, 2015 we watched our friends proclaim their “I do’s”, not knowing that we both would be saying our own “I do’s” two years later. On that night we danced, talked and danced some more and just when I thought the night was over, he hugged me good night and stole a little kiss. It was at that point we both had a burning desire to get to know each other a little bit more.
The following Monday Livingston invited me on an unofficial date at Green Parrots, a local pub here in The Bahamas. I contemplated on going because I thought things were moving just a little too fast. I had second thoughts as to whether he was the one that God had sent to me. After some thought and a silent prayer I hopped in my car and met up with him. To my surprise, he was more nervous than I was. After the initial questions were asked he broke the ice with a joke and the night turned out amazingly awesome.
Livingston then asked me out on an official date that same week at Palm Cay. To be honest I was very hesitant at first and walked into it with my guard up, even though things were off to a great start. At that moment, I said Lord this is just too good to be true and allowed Him to lead. Yet again the night was filled with laughter and romance. He treated me like a queen. Roses awaited me at the dinner table and a bottle of wine in an ice bucket. We were the only persons in the Club House having dinner that night. It was as if God and his Angels designed it that way. If I had to sum it up in one word, I would say it was “Incredible”. From that day to now, he has not changed one bit. His love for me has been consistent with his actions. I am very excited to say he was truly God sent!”
“I had a secret Santa dinner planned on December 19th, 2016 with some friends but Livingston insisted that he take me to dinner that same night. I found that to be very strange because he never planned anything on my girl’s night out, but I went with the flow. I dropped off my secret Santa gift and went with him to his secret dinner location. I then noticed we pulled up at Palm Cay Club House where he asked me to take a walk with him. At that point my mind went on a rollercoaster and questions started running through my mind, like when are we going to eat? ‘LOL’. He held my hands and we walked by the pool under the beautiful Christmas lights, which gave a romantic dreamlike reflection in the pool. He went down on one knee and started sharing how much he truly loves me and saw me as the mother of his future children. It wasn’t until he said to me that he sat my father down and had a chat with him and also asked his permission for my hand in marriage that I began to cry. As Livingston knows how important family is to me, it meant the world to me that he respected and valued me so much to seek approval. I then said YES with tears flowing from both our eyes. We hugged, kissed and cried some more. That moment felt so surreal but I was very overjoyed and thankful all at the same time. God really out did Himself this time!”
“The wedding planning journey has been awesome. We have booked an amazing wedding planner, Tennille Darville, owner of Five Seasons Bridal. She has made this experience less stressful for us and we truly appreciate it.”
“The best moments have been making decisions together. We found ourselves for many weekends sitting down discussing wedding ideas. People usually say that men do not like to get involved in the wedding planning, but Livingston has been there every step of the way. From counseling sessions to cake tasting, he cleared his schedule to ensure that he is a part of every moment.
The most challenging moments of the wedding planning process have been compromising with each other. We had to learn early that there was no way we would have a successful wedding if we didn’t learn how to compromise. Despite it all, Livingston would always end our discussions by saying, “Babe, at the end of the day I only want us to be happy!” which would always put my mind at ease.”
“My ring is very gorgeous. It is a halo princess cut, white gold diamond ring. Livingston chose this ring because it is unique and has a lot of layers to it. He often compares it to me.”
“We will be getting married in February, 2018.”
“We will be getting married at Zion Baptist East & Shirley Streets. We chose this location because we both grew up in Baptist churches and this church is actually my home church. We also both wanted a traditional church wedding ceremony and Zion Baptist offers that traditional Baptist touch.”
“I chose a Maggie-Sottero gown. The Maggie Sottero brand had so many designs that personally captured my heart and pocketbook, but when it came down to the wire – I could actually see myself floating down the aisle in the gown I chose. It will be an element of surprise for everyone! I cannot wait for my wedding day as I will be a Maggie Bride!!”
“I will be wearing a Badgley Mischka stylish design for my wedding shoe. They are gorgeously blinged out!”
Bridesmaids and Ushers Dresses
“For the Bridesmaids and Ushers, I chose various dresses from Lela Rose, After Six and Jenny Yoo- all under the Dessy Group. I fell in love with the full length chiffon dresses. The Bridesmaids dresses in particular have a lovely classic lace styles which will bring out the sexy figures of each of my girls.“
ANY ADVICE FOR OTHER BRIDES-TO-BE PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?
“I strongly advise that you invest in a wedding planner. It relieves the stress of doing everything on your own. I am so happy that we went in that direction. It allowed us to learn more about each other and think less about planning. Always remember the reason why you said YES, as there will be times when you will be so deep in wedding plans that you will forget the reason for the wedding which is to publicly declare your love and lifetime commitment to each other! Do not make the wedding all about you, allow your fiancé to have an input in the planning process, believe it or not it will make him feel like the leader that he truly is. Most importantly, value each other’s opinions. Do not allow ANYONE other than your wedding planner to give an insight on how things should be on your day. It’s you and your fiancé’s special day and you won’t ever get that moment back.”
