So beyond the extraordinary photographs, we could go on and on about the million things that we adore about this precious wedding in the Cayman Islands. From the English garden theme and soft pastel colour palette to the gorgeous personalised wedding stationery by the bride herself and the sweet blessing from the bride’s grandfather for both the rehearsal dinner and the wedding night, this destination wedding was so lovely and so much fun!
Hit pause for a second on work (we insist!) and read the *FULL* love story below guys, it’s pretty amazing.
FROM THE COUPLE:
Oren and I met on the dating app Jswipe. We both ‘swiped right’ to each other in 2014 and a year later Oren proposed to me in the middle of my parents ballroom at their house. The room was covered in flowers by Glen Head Flower Shop and massive champagne bottles. He had invited all of our closest friends and family who were hiding throughout the house. After he got down on one knee within a heart shaped border of rose petals, our friends, family and photographer popped out to surprise me. After we took photos and toasted, he had another big surprise with a party at our local steakhouse an hour after. It was perfect and ironic. The ironic part being, he had me believing we were driving to my parents house for a holiday party. The entire drive I was complaining about how we talk about rings but when will he actually propose? He later told me he was laughing inside the entire drive because the ring was in his pocket next to me!
My inspiration was english gardens. I love the look of perfectly imperfect arrangements. The whispering stems in an english garden are so romantic to me. The color palette was soft pastels. I was always obsessed with the DVD cover for Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette with Kristen Dunst. Those colours inspired my entire wedding weekend.
Our wedding happened to fall on Chanukah and Shabbat (Oren and I are both Jewish), so we made a point to light the candles with all of our guests every night. We had personalized raw silk yamakas for the men with our logo on it, and my grandpa said the blessings for both the rehearsal dinner and our wedding night. It was so special after all he isn’t just the reason we started coming down to the Cayman Islands, but he’s the reason why we are such a close knit family, and that closeness is what made Oren and I fall in love – the value of family.
THE WEDDING DECOR
The plus about getting married at the Ritz Carlton in Grand Cayman is that it is already very beautiful from the interior to the exterior with the beach and the big green lawn tropical garden. Rain or Shine, It doesn’t disappoint. We didn’t need to do much but bring in flowers by the fabulous girls of Fern Studio and add some signage to direct people. I personally hand painted and drew each element on my invitations, menus and signage. GLDN Events made sure it all went smoothly.
PERSONALISATIONS FOR THE SPECIAL DAY
Since I have been a stationery designer since 2010, I personally hand painted and drew each element on my invitations, menus, and signage. The butterflies all represented family members who passed in Oren and my life. The two fish were me and Oren, since we share the same birthday! The flowers were mainly petunias because that is my nickname and I used my font line Madison Street, which little did we know, foreshadowed what would come a few days before our wedding, the news that we were pregnant with our son Madison!
Since the wedding was 3 days long I did a lot of shopping! I fell in love with the flowy white chiffon Jonathan Simkhai dress for our rehearsal dinner white party on the beach. It was so light and romantic. Exactly the vibe I was going for. My wedding dress was completely custom by Karen Sabog. I had this idea in my head and I couldn’t find it anywhere. I walked into Karen’s studio and told her about my vision and she made it come to life. It was a 2 in one. A long tulle skirt with a 20 foot train that sat over a tight Chantilly lace gown. The gown and skirt had over 100 Chantilly lace butterflies sewn throughout it. I wanted it to look like they were flying around me. Butterflies played an important role in my wedding. My grandma had passed away the year before and she always said she would come back as butterfly. It was a little piece of her going down the aisle with me.
THE MOST ANTICIPATED MOMENT
I think the most special moment was the fact that our son now 7 weeks old happened to be there with us that day, in my belly! We found out 5 days before I walked down the aisle that I was pregnant. The most anticipated moment was obviously sharing our home away from home, Cayman Islands, with all or loved ones. After going there for over 30 years with my family, it was SO special to bring every person to our special place. Another special moment was our last dance at the rehearsal dinner with everyone. The DJ played Uncle John’s Band by the Grateful Dead, which happens to be my parents favorite band, and we all danced in a circle. You can feel the bond that everyone developed over the weekend in that circle. It made me feel so special that my dream for all my loved ones to experience the Caymans and for them to all meet each other and see why I am so close to each and every one of them came true. And still to this day, I have people talking about not just that dance, but that weekend and how they left with more friends then they came with.
ANY PLANNING ADVICE FOR ENGAGED COUPLES?
My biggest advice is take your time. Enjoy the engagement phase and take it slow with planning so you can truly enjoy each other. Marriage doesn’t change much about your life, but kids do and sometimes they come sooner than you think! My other big advice is to hire a planner, specifically GLDN Events. I have been in the wedding industry for almost 10 years. I thought I didn’t need help after all the shoots and bridal market weeks I attended, but little did I know HOW much I needed and relied on my event coordinator Meredith Falk. They don’t just help you plan, but they keep you organized and calm.
Thank you Eliza, Oren and GLDN Events for sharing this precious wedding with us!
