Today’s wedding is a breath of fresh air full of glittery details, and we could not possibly love it any more. It is for that very reason that we are so ecstatic to introduce you all to our couple of the week – Davia and her husband Quentin. From having first met at University and falling head over heels in love at Vet school, these two lovebirds designed the most amazing destination wedding themed event ever!

Everything about these gorgeous images exude charm and fun, which is no surprise seeing as the lovely Lyndah Wells Photography shot each one. Read on for more from this adorable couple and their fete at the luxurious Atlantis Paradise Island Resort in the Bahamas!

“We knew of each other for four years in Undergrad at Tuskegee University, but didn’t really get close until we enrolled into Veterinary school. Quentin had a crush on me for a while, but an opportunity for us to date didn’t come up until our third year of Veterinary school. He asked me on a date to a county fair, and the rest is history…”

“We were at the Atlantis Hotel in The Bahamas when he proposed. While in front of one of the sculptures, he pretended to ask a lady to take a picture of us but in reality had told her to take a video. It was then that he began his proposal. I was absolutely surprised. Apparently he was too nervous to say everything he had been practicing (I later found out), but the proposal was still beautiful. The video is on youtube!

“We had around 160 guests. Quentin comes from a large family and we had a lot of close friends, so we wanted as many of our loved ones to attend as we could accommodate.”

“I knew I wanted a trumpet/Fit and flare gown with a bit of lace on the bodice and some sparkle. My mummy came to America from The Bahamas one weekend and we went to a few stores.

Winnie Couture was the last store we visited and it was there that the consultant pulled out the Olivia Gown. She was perfect. Olivia had the lace detail on the bodice with jewels located around the waist and on the upper half of the gown, and the style was fit and flare. Olivia embodied everything that I wanted in a gown. When I stood in front of the mirror it was no doubt that she would be the dress I would walk down the aisle in.”

“We chose to have a Destination wedding theme. We ordered invitations and save-the-date samples, and the moment we both seperately ordered a Passport style invite we knew that this was the route to go. The Save-the-dates were made by both of us and by going DIY we were able to save up for the beautiful passport invitations.

We named the tables after places we traveled to together. The party favor boxes were mini suitcases we made as well. The whole atmosphere was simple and elegant with low decorations to allow conversation between guests and a view of us. The main colour scheme was blue-grey with accents of blush and silver. We had silver dinnerware and kept it simple with white table clothes on some tables while others had silver sparkly tablecloths.”

“I really loved doing the first dance since it was choreographed by us. It turned out just perfect. It was wonderful hearing the memorable speeches done by our family as well. They made everyone so emotional.”

“One fond memory would be standing up on the stage getting ready to say our vows, and looking out to see all my friends and family present. Another is like Davia said, and just the feeling of having successfully pulled off our wedding dance, and then listening to all the speeches that our family and friends had prepared for us.”

“We choreographed our first dance on our own. It was a mixture of some of our favourite songs with a few songs being from our home town. We had an MC in addition to our DJ and he did a great job of making the reception live.”

“We wanted something simple for our wedding cake, and so opted for a tiered cake with our wedding colors and few flowers.”

“We only chose music for the ceremony and let our wonderful skilled DJ take over for the reception. The wedding party walked in on a cover of John Legend’s “All of Me” – violin and guitar cover by Daniel Jang.

As the bride, I walked in on Ed Sheeran’s “Tenerife Sea”. Our ceremony exit song was “Love Never Felt So Good” by Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake. We picked songs based on the mood we wanted and because we loved them.”

“We stayed in The Bahamas at the beautiful Atlantis Cove for one day of rest after the wedding. Then we traveled to the island of Antigua where we stayed at the Sandals Resort. It was a beautiful experience. Being at Sandals allowed us to be care free. We ate and drank as much as we wanted and spent time with only each other. We did a few excursions to view the beautiful island of Antigua but Sandals provided lots of entertainment as well. It was our first time at an all-inclusive resort and now it’d be hard to imagine vacationing any other way.”

“Stick with your dreams but definitely understand that not everything is doable whether it’s due to the season (those flowers you dreamed of may not be available), or the budget. Trust in your wedding co-ordinator AND whoever is in charge of decor – they know what they are doing. I think having a theme and a primary color is the best place to start. We had a Destination theme so our Save-the-dates were luggage tags (DIY) and the invitations were passports. The passports were not only practical with regard to having information about the whole weekend but it helped guests remember to actually get a passport for the Destination Wedding. Knowing our two major colours, we were able to make selections easily when it came to stationary, bridesmaids and groomsmen attire, and decorations. I created a document collecting images I had saved on Pinterest and was able to send that document to the florist/decorator and wedding planner. We also did a few things ourselves. DIY projects are fun and also brings the couple together. It is also a great idea to get everyone involved. Assign certain tasks to people and that take some of the load off of the couple, especially the bride. And one last bit advice, don’t forget that this is YOUR day. Try not to add more stress by trying to please everyone.”

Thank you so much to the adorable couple for sharing their love story with us, and to Lyndah Wells Photography for sharing this gorgeous album with us! Merry Christmas Everyone!
