Hello gorgeous ones! If you’re deep in your destination wedding planning, and are in dire need of some gorgeous inspiration, then we have a pretty good feeling that we’re spot on with today’s beach wedding from St. John, USVI.

Amber and Adam have been enamoured with the Caribbean from the moment they began dating, so when that special time came around and they had to decide on venue, it was a no brainer. They decided to head to the beautiful island of St. John, and from the stunning photographs, we’re pretty certain that St. John is going to be added to our list of islands to visit in 2019!

Enjoy our feature of the week loves, and have a fantastic Wedding Wednesday… 🙂

FROM THE COUPLE:

HOW DID YOU MEET?

We met on a dating App called Tinder. You know the one were you swipe right if you like someone and left if you don’t. Well on the lucky day we both swiped right. We started talking, and soon after we found out we lived over 60 miles away from eachother. After a couple weeks of talking, we planned to meet for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. We went to lunch then walked around and talked for a few hours and just really hit it off.

THE PROPOSAL

Adam proposed at Walt Disney World. We went on a short 1 day trip before we flew from Orlando to Aruba for vacation. That morning we woke up early so that we could go to Magic Kingdom as soon as it opened. We walked into the park and ofcourse since I’m big on taking pictures the first thing we did was get in line to take a picture right in front of the castle. We got to the front of the line and took the few pictures the Disney Photographer set us up for. Once we were done and about to walk off, Adam stopped and asked the photographer to just take one more picture. He turned to me, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! It was all caught by the Disney photographer, and it was so very sweet and perfect.

DECOR THEME

We chose to go with a floral/ palm leaf decor. We were inspired by the bright colors of my favorite clothing designer, Lilly Pulitzer. We chose our bridesmaids dresses, and then used the colors from the dresses to pick our flowers and other decor items.

FONDEST MEMORIES

One of my fondest memories from our wedding is our ceremony. I absolutely loved walking down the aisle framed with palm leaves looking out over beautiful Trunk Bay. The weather was perfect, the beach was totally empty, and it couldn’t have been any more perfect.

THE DRESS

My dress, oh…where to start?! About 6 months before my wedding, I took my mom, sister and bridesmaid dress shopping. We went to a highly recommended dress shop in our area named, Evelyn’s Bridal. After trying on about 6 dresses, I found a dress that fit great and was very flattering. I purchased the dress that day and was told the dress would be in, in a few weeks.

The dress came in and I set up an appointment to get alterations started. That appointment is where everything started to hit the fan. I went and put on my dress and it was so big, that it fell off. The dress shop ordered a dress that was four sizes too big. After a few tears, speaking with the seamstress and the dress shop owner we decided it was too late to order a smaller dress and the seamstress assured me that she could make it work.

The next fitting I came in, the dress was still too big and was lumpy on one side. The seamstress assured that it was all part of the process and she would be able to take the dress in some more. Three days before we were due to fly out I had my last fitting, When I went to pick the dress up no other alterations had been made, it was not done and it was still way off. I sat there for 2 hours going back and forth trying the dress on with her making changes.

After changing it four times, it was still way off, and I gave up. I was in tears. I spoke with the dress shop owner, and she said there was nothing she could do and she wasn’t going to help me. She walked me out to my car and put the dress in my trunk and I drove away with a dress I couldn’t wear. On the drive home, I settled down a bit and spoke to my mom and fiancé about the situation.

I decided to write a review on the Facebook page, Google page and Yelp page of the dress store. I didn’t want anyone to go through the same experience that I did. Moments later I received a message from the owner, offering to give me a complete refund IF I would remove the review. She brought a cheque to me and I removed the review. So the day before I’m supposed to leave for my wedding I was frantically searching for a new wedding dress!

My bridesmaid and I went to our local Davids Bridal praying that we would find something. We told them to bring me everything in my size that I could take home today and it couldn’t have to have any alterations done. Luckily they had three dresses that were different styles in my size. I tried them on and found the one that fit me like a glove. It was about an inch too long, but that was nothing a change of shoe couldn’t fix. So after about an hour of the best service at David’s Bridal, I found a beautiful dress and my dress nightmare was over! I couldn’t have been more pleased with my dress. It went perfectly with our decor and I loved the way I looked in it and so did my husband!

THE VENUE

My husband and I are in love with the Caribbean. Since we started dating, we have travelled to the Caribbean two or three times a year and have fallen in love with the region and lifestyle. We searched for the perfect island to start our life together. We had been to St. Thomas a couple times before and loved it. We looked for the perfect beach for our ceremony, and found a few that would be perfect, but those perfect beaches were on St. John, where neither of us had been before so we knew we would need some help.

WEDDING PLANNING

Yes, Neither Adam nor I had ever been to St. John before and knew we would need help planning and executing the perfect wedding.

THE HONEYMOON

Two days after our wedding we flew from St. Thomas to San Juan and hopped on a 7 day cruise. We chose this cruise because it was going to five islands that we had never been to before and it would be an end to our cruising adventure.

ANY ADVICE FOR BRIDES TO BE AND COUPLES?

Hire a wedding planner! From the moment we arrived to the moment we left I didn’t have to worry about anything to do with the wedding! Mary and her team took care of everything. I have heard so many horror stories about how stressful a wedding day is for the bride but with Mary and her team I didn’t have to worry or stress about a single thing. She had everyone in place at the time they were supposed to be.

Thank you so much to Amber, Adam & Island Style Weddings for sharing this amazing album with us!
