When we think of Magical Proposals, many of us immediately think “Disney”. But Amanda and Alejandro’s engagement was a little bit different, and definitely took us by surprise! We enamour at the sight of true love, and felt this the moment we met this lovely couple. With a romantic, beach front wedding happening today, this love story is without a doubt one of our favourites thus far.
More from the bride:
Our love story may not have begun with “love at first sight”, but after getting to know each other it eventually grew into love. We met in Tobago after one of my friends invited us to come up for a weekend, back in August 2008, and the rest is history.
How he proposed is a really funny story!! My family and I had gone on a family vacation to Orlando, FL. last year, and Alej of course came along with us. I had expected a proposal in my favorite park – Magic Kingdom but of course it did not happen. When we returned to Trinidad from the trip, I had taken a moment to go to the bathroom after passing through customs. I walked out, and saw my brother taping on his video camera so naturally I was a little confused and asked “Why are you taping this?, then walked a little further and saw my ENTIRE family and friends in the corner, with Alej in front of me. He knelt down and asked me to marry him!! It definitely beat the Magic Kingdom proposal I dreamt about my whole life (haha), and having all my family and friends there meant the world to me. It was also very well planned – I was impressed!
The wedding planning journey has been going beautifully so far. It’s been great knowing what is to come. So far we’ve been planning the wedding and our lives after marriage, and its a process but a fun one! The best part of the process thus far would definitely be the booking of our wedding specialists, and knowing that we have been able to hire all the companies that we initially wanted. *yay us*! The most challenging part would also be the booking (haha), as trying to find wedding specialists that are affordable, and that can work with our budget is no easy task.
We will be getting married on May 14th 2016 at Chaquacabana Resort, Chaguaramas. Finding this venue wasn’t a walk in the park for us, but while location hunting one day, we encountered a kind security guard from another location in Chaguaramas who told us that we should go check out this place that was recently renovated so we said why not! As soon as we arrived at the venue, I looked at Alej and told him…yes, this is it! It was so beautiful and outdoors, which is what we always wanted. The deck was amazing and it was sea front so the romantically whimsical feel was certainly there.
From choosing the perfect theme to selecting a suitable venue, we learnt so much. Even choosing the dress of my dreams seemed to be a bit of a challenge, as I am a little bit more tiny than most brides to be out there. But, with the advice of my loving family I decided to go with a designer dress to eradicate any fear, from one of the top designers in the Caribbean – Meiling. The bridesmaids dresses were ordered from China, and the groom’s suit was purchased at Benneton.
My wedding planning adventure didn’t come without its little hiccups, but thankfully I had a tremendous support system throughout the process making it fun and keeping me positive throughout it all. In saying so, here’s my little advice for other beautiful brides to be:
Try to keep it a small wedding, big weddings are expensive.
Make sure you have meetings with your photographer and videographer in advance so they know the shots to capture on the day.
Try and get a location that has most things included- tables, chairs, tablecloths (it’s one less thing you have to organize).
Create a pinterest board for inspiration for each aspect of the wedding.
Take the year to plan for the wedding, as it will help in spacing things out so you are not stressed.
Hire a wedding planner to take care of all the details so you don’t have to!
