FROM THE COUPLE:
“I feel as though there are too many favourite moments from our wedding to count! We really feel blessed to have been surrounded by incredible, loving and supportive family and friends. Recounting all the wonderful moments that we shared, my absolute favourite was the ceremony itself. It is a surreal feeling to walk down the aisle as a bride, arm-in-arm with your father and that is a moment that I will never forget. Not only was the walk meaningful, but there was a collaborative effort between my sister, our officiant, who was a friend of ours, and myself to write the ceremony script and it was really special to hear the words that we worked so hard to write. It spoke specifically to the meaning of Don and my relationship, which made it very powerful” says the lovely bride.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR OVERALL WEDDING EXPERIENCE?
“Planning a wedding is of course overwhelming especially when planning from thousands of miles away. With a background in event planning, I had to really force myself to let go of control so that I could enjoy each of our events instead of micro-managing the resort staff. I fully committed to this plan once I stepped foot on the property and my reviews of each event, our welcome party, our wedding ceremony/reception and our farewell brunch were executed perfectly. We all had an absolute blast celebrating all weekend and I have heard nothing short than our wedding was absolutely amazing.”
THE BRIDAL FASHION
“I did not find my wedding dress traditionally. I had been wedding dress shopping with my sister and really did not see myself wearing an intricate gown like the ones I saw in the boutiques. I actually had a vision in my mind as to what I was looking for, which was a simple and elegant gown with a low back. Finding a dress with a low back was important to me because on our first date, I wore a red dress with an open back, which Don still remembers to this day. Originally, my dress was not offered in white, but off-white colors including a beige/champagne color and a light pink/blush color. It was the perfect dress except that it wasn’t offered in white and since I was already having a non-traditional wedding, I still wanted to encompass some traditions such as this. A couple months later, I happened to stumble upon my perfect gown as there was a new colour option for “The Slip” dress by Lovers + Friends, that was white with dainty straps, a low back with buttons down the middle of the back and a small train” mentions the bride.
HOW WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?
“We couldn’t have picked a better photographer! Not only did Amy and her husband work great together as a team to capture every special moment that there was, but she also wore multiple hats throughout our weekend and helped me to coordinate with the resort staff to ensure that each event ran smoothly! She deserves MVP!”
IF YOU DID A “FIRST LOOK” AND PORTRAITS BEFORE THE CEREMONY, DID YOU ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE?
“I was so happy that we did a “first look” as well as family pictures before the wedding! It really helped to ease our nerves by seeing each other and spending time with our families. It also allowed us to be able to spend more time at our cocktail hour with our family and friends as we had fewer pictures to take after our ceremony.
WHAT WAS YOUR WEDDING VENDOR EXPERIENCE?
“Most of my ideas came from pictures found on Instagram. My arbour was a similar design to what I had seen at a destination wedding in an Instagram picture as well as my wedding cake, which was also decorated with the eucalyptus that draped the arbour. I knew that I wanted rectangular tables with blush-toned colour napkins and lush greenery as centrepieces, which I later found out is predicted as a top wedding trend for 2017.”
WHAT WERE YOU MOST NERVOUS OR ANXIOUS ABOUT?
“I was nervous about everything! You truly don’t know how your body is going to react until you are actually in the situation. As ready as I thought I was, that still didn’t stop me from having the overwhelming feelings of “Oh my gosh, are we really getting married right now!?” I actually had to set my champagne glass down because I started to shake while trying to drink it before our ceremony and I didn’t want to spill all over my dress! I can’t say for sure if it was nerves (I’ve known for four years that he’d be the man I spend my life with) or just pure excitement!”
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU OFFER TO OTHER NEWLY-ENGAGED COUPLES?
“Plan a destination wedding! With regard to the photography side of things – Other than a guideline for family pictures, I left this up to the discretion of our photographer as I trusted her and her professional ability to style our pictures” says the sweet bride.
