Happy Friday darlings – today’s tropical soiree is a Trinidad wedding bound to put a smile on your face! Beautiful bride Kristen married the man of her dreams in a sweet ceremony in Trinidad and Tobago. This couple’s nuptials were a sweet culturally inspired love affair that won over their guests and our team from the moment we saw them!
We were so delighted when we heard that the lovely couple embraced members like the amazing Lee tung & Thomas Studios from our Adriana Weddings professional list.

A TOUCH OF WEDDED LOVE:
“We met during our university (University of Bristol) freshers’ week at the Afro-Caribbean society meet and greet. Interestingly, we started off as friends for almost the entire first year.”
“We had just graduated from UOB and we were celebrating our 5th year anniversary of being together. We had decided to go back to Bristol “to do all the things we had never done”….or so I thought.
Instead, Derek had an intricate plan for the weekend which did not involve site-seeing at all.
He planned a very relaxing day at the DoubleTree by Hilton spa with afternoon tea “to celebrate our 5th year anniversary”, then we went to dinner on the beautiful Bristol harbourside. It was sunset and we were on the way to the restaurant (The Glassboat restaurant overlooking the beautiful harbour). Whilst we were walking along a quiet street leading to the harbourside, he went on one knee and popped the question.”
“We invited one hundred and twenty people to our wedding. We wanted it to be intimate, but also wanted to ensure that we included all of those people who were very dear to us.”
“Derek wore a Navy blue suit, bow tie and trousers alongside a traditional Ghanaian kente cloth pocket square and some brown shoes.”
“It’s hard to describe but I just knew my dress was right when I saw it. My sister, the maid of honour, was there to help and we were skyping my mother who was also a great help. I had the dress on in the store for at least an hour, and just didn’t want to take it off!”
“My husband’s favourite moment was following the church ceremony. We went onto a boat ride at Caroni Swamp, and it was so peaceful and serene. We both felt that it was so nice to have that moment, looking out into the overlying water. It was very calming. He also really enjoyed the reception with the speeches and dancing.”
“My favourite shot would be the shot of both of us on the boat in Caroni with the water overlying, and the wonderful background scenery. I feel like it really captured our happiness being with each other at that moment.”
“We chose ‘tropical sanctuary’ as our theme. We are very grateful to RK décor as they executed our vision to perfection. A tropical sanctuary was a good theme as we thought it will be a perfect way to showcase both African and Caribbean cultures.”
“We wanted a wedding cake that went well with our theme of a tropical sanctuary but also something quite simple. We were incredibly blessed that my Aunty Sonia was able to design the cake. She did a wonderful job.”
“We love a lot of John Legend music and some of the oldies (ie Kool and the gang, Jackson 5) so we had a good selection of these. There ain’t no party without some Afrobeats and Soca either so we played a lot from these genres on the dance floor.”
“We went to our sister isle for our honeymoon and stayed at Stonehaven villas. It was nothing short of amazing – I would definitely recommend it. We experienced the perfect balance of privacy and also socializing when we felt like it. :)”
ANY ADVICE FOR BRIDES-TO-BE?
“Just remember to take time to enjoy the ride. “
Thank you to the lovely couple Kristen and Derek for sharing their love story with us, and Lee Tung & Thomas Studios for their exceptional pictures!
