Read on from the darling couple, Shiva and Vijaya:
“Shiva and I met through a mutual friend who thought we would be a good fit. Turns out she was right! We had similar interests as we were both studying law at the time, and just clicked.”
“The proposal was simply perfect. It was our third anniversary and he made plans to have dinner at the Hyatt. Our table was the very last and it was adorned with a bouquet of roses and candles all around. Unknowingly, I thought it was just a romantic gesture to mark our third anniversary.
Thereafter, he began talking about our relationship in the cutest way and then the next thing I knew he was on bended knee with a beautiful ring in his hand and popped the question. Of course I said yes! I was too distracted during the proposal to realize that a photographer was snapping away at us.
I had seen a photographer (Epidemic Studios) next to our table when we arrived, but was oblivious, I thought he was there to capture the beauty of Hyatt. It was a lovely evening and with just one magical question, I had and became someone’s fiancé -couldn’t have been any happier.”
“For our Hindu ceremony, we invited over three hundred guests, as we decided that we wanted as much of our family and friends to witness our wedding. For the reception, we wanted something more intimate with close family and friends, and so invited 185 guests instead.”
Wife: “My fondest memory would have to be when I approached the mandap and saw my husband to be for the very first time on the wedding day. For the reception, it would have to be our first dance. It was a precious moment just for us, and everyone else seemed to drown out for those few minutes.”
Husband: “The fondest thing, in my opinion was when I was directed to put the wedding band on her finger, and also when the pundit asked me to put my arms on her shoulder asking us to remember the promises we made to each other. Her smile made me fall in love with her all over again (as you can see from the pictures below).”
“As for the reception, I loved our first dance together. The way that she held me, and as usual, that smile had me again. I love my wife.”
“The theme of our wedding was fairy-tale. I’ve wanted this theme for as long as I could remember. I am a hopeless romantic and absolutely love the “Happily Ever After” type of movies.
I’m also a Disney fan, so I decided to incorporate little aspects of it, with a focus on Cinderella. I had little glass slippers around the dessert table, with quotes from the movie framed. Cinderella coach was our logo and of course I included a castle as our cake topper.
I am so thankful that my husband endorsed the theme, so that I could have my dream wedding. Blush, Ivory and Gold were the colors we chose to make it a magical night. Our decorator – A’s Creation Events Decor did an amazing job. I felt like I was in a fairytale when I walked in and the arch that we sat under was completely mesmerizing.
As for the temple, the theme was the same, fairy tale/dreamy. I wanted our mandap to be enchanting and princess like, and Dreamworks Décor did an awesome job creating exactly what I wanted. The flowers were draped around the entire mandap with a crystal backdrop.”
“I flew to New York to get my wedding dress and Indian outfit. I always knew that I wanted a ball gown dress. I researched countless dresses online and narrowed it down to about eight dresses, with the hope that I would get an opportunity to try on the three that I loved the most.
My cousins who live in New York along with my cousins who flew in from Canada to surprise me, were the ones who assisted me in finding my dress. I tried on a few dresses. At first I thought I’d found the one, but then I went into Kleinfeld and tried on another of my top three choices.
I knew that I had truly found the one when I saw the dress. It was gorgeous and I loved the trail! More importantly, when I tried it on, I felt like a princess and a real bride, the two essential requirements that I desired. My cousins agreed, so it made the decision that much easier.”
“My mom passed away when I was younger, so to feel closer to her on the wedding days, I wore her yellow indian outfit for the ceremony as well as her gold charm bracelet on both days. I also had a decal under my shoes that read “Happily Ever After” and the other side had Cinderella and her prince.”
“The fairytale theme of the wedding reflected the cake. I wanted it to have little bows that reminded me of Cinderella’s pink dress. I love pearls and roses so I also incorporated it into the design along with a castle on top. The cake artist listened to me and literally brought my drawing to life.”
“We had the Shiv Shakti dancers, a violinist, tassa for entertainment and a photo booth.”
“For our honeymoon, we went to Barbados and it was fantastic, exactly what we needed after a year of planning. It was relaxing, serene and beautiful.”
ANY ADVICE FOR NEWLY-ENGAGED COUPLES?
“Wedding planning is fun and exciting, but at times can be stressful. I would advise newly engaged couples to enjoy this transitional period. Go on dates and enjoy each other, not every conversation has to be about your upcoming nuptials. Remember to enjoy your day, it goes by quickly! Hire a good photographer(s) and videographer(s), as it is truly the best present to receive post wedding.”
Thank you so much to the sweet couple Shiva and Vijaya for sharing their love story with us, and to Awesome Photography and Epidemic Studios for sharing the albums!
